OT Trend shows you, at a glance, which way a stock, ETF, index or currency pair is trending, whether the move is stretched, and where the important price levels are. It does this with one simple idea: a trendline drawn through the middle of the price, a channel around it, and oscillators that tell you where the price sits inside that channel.
This guide walks through every screen, explains each line, signal and button, and shows how to read the watchlist, the AI Analyzer and the sector Rotation map.

What you see on the price chart
| Line | What it is | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| White line (or bars) | The price | — |
| Pink line — the trendline | An average that runs through the middle of the price | Its direction is the trend: rising = uptrend, falling = downtrend. Price above a rising trendline is a healthy uptrend; price below a falling one is a downtrend. |
| Grey band — the channel | The normal range around the trendline | Near the top of the band the move is stretched up; near the bottom it is stretched down. |
| Cyan dashed lines | Resistance (upper) and support (lower) | Price levels where the move has tended to stall. |
On iPad you can also switch between Line, Bars and Trend views at the top.
Signals on the price chart (Pro)
| Signal | Where | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Green ▲ | along the top | Trend buy: the price closed back above a rising trendline. |
| Red ▲ | along the top | Trend sell: the price closed back below a falling trendline. |
| Green bar | along the bottom of the price chart | Agreement — up: the latest trend signal and the latest oscillator signal are both buys. |
| Red bar | along the bottom of the price chart | Agreement — down: both latest signals are sells. |
Trend signals tell you the direction; the agreement bars mark the stretches where direction and timing line up.
The lower panel: oscillators
All oscillators run from 0 to 100. The dashed red line at 70 and green line at 30 mark stretched readings.
| Line | Button | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Red | RR Osc (free) | Where the price sits inside the channel: 0 = bottom, 50 = on the trendline, 100 = top. |
| Yellow | RSI (Pro) | The classic 10-period RSI of the closing price: how strong recent up days are against down days. |
| White dotted | Combined (Pro) | The average of Osc and RSI — position in the channel and momentum in one line. |
- Above 70: stretched up (overbought). Moves often pause or pull back from here.
- Below 30: stretched down (oversold). Bounces often start from here.
- Each button shows the latest reading, for example Combined 52. Tap a button to show or hide its line.
Oscillator signals (Pro)
The small triangles along the bottom of the lower panel are swing (oscillator) signals, taken from the Combined line:
- Green ▲ — swing buy: the Combined line was below 30 and turned up, on an up day that followed a down day.
- Red ▲ — swing sell: the Combined line was above 70 and turned down, on a down day that followed an up day.
Swing signals are about timing inside the trend. A swing buy in an uptrend (price above a rising trendline) is the classic "buy the dip"; a swing sell in a downtrend is "sell the bounce".
Cycles (Pro)
Markets tend to move in rhythms. OT Trend draws three cycle waves in the lower panel (they show where a cycle is, not the price):
| Button | Line | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Cycle nn | solid green wave | The main cycle, from the average spacing of recent price lows. The number is its length in bars. |
| Dominant nn | dotted light-green wave | The dominant cycle: the strongest longer rhythm (36–160 bars) found in the prices. |
| Composite | cyan wave | The two cycles combined. It is lowest where both cycles bottom together. |
| AI | — | Includes cycle timing (bars since the last low and to the next low) in the AI Analyzer. |
A wave near its bottom suggests a cycle low is near; near the top, a cycle high. Cycles are timing hints, not guarantees.
On iPhone the four cycle buttons show as Cyc, Dom, Comp and AI.
Options levels (Pro)
For symbols with listed options, OT Trend draws the key options levels as dotted lines with labels. Turn them on or off with the Options button at the top right of the chart. The data downloads once a day per symbol.
| Label | Color | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Call OI | green | Strike with the most call open interest — often watched as resistance. |
| Put OI | orange | Strike with the most put open interest — often watched as support. |
| Max pain | red | The price at which options holders as a whole would lose the most at expiry. Prices sometimes drift toward it near expiry. |
| Gamma wall | purple | Strike with the largest positive gamma exposure; dealer hedging can slow moves around it. |
| Put wall | pink | Strike with the largest put-side gamma; often a support area. |
| Gamma flip | light blue | Above it, dealer hedging tends to dampen moves; below it, to amplify them. |
| Exp. move (two lines) | grey | The range options are pricing to the next monthly expiry (about one standard deviation). |
When two levels fall on the same price you will see one combined label, such as Call OI · Gamma wall 340.
Settings
- Filter 1 controls the top of the channel and the resistance line; Filter 2 controls the bottom of the channel and the support line. The switch shows or hides the line; a higher number brings it closer to the trendline.
- Cycle turns the main cycle line on or off.
- iCloud keeps your watchlists in sync between your iPhone and iPad.
2. The Watchlist signals (Pro)
Every symbol in a watchlist shows its price and change. With OT Trend Pro, each symbol also gets a trend signal and a bar count, worked out from the trendline:
| Signal | Meaning |
|---|---|
| B (green) | Buy / uptrend: the price is above a rising trendline. |
| S (red) | Sell / downtrend: the price is below a falling trendline. |
| H ● (green dot) | Hold — pullback in an uptrend: the trendline is rising but the price has dipped below it. Watch for the price to recover the line. |
| H ● (red dot) | Hold — bounce in a downtrend: the trendline is falling but the price has popped above it. Watch whether the bounce fails. |
| T number | How many bars the price has stayed on its current side of the trendline (for example T5 = 5 days, or 5 weeks on weekly bars). |
Daily or weekly: the watchlist follows the chart's time frame.
- On 6M and 1Y charts the signals use daily bars.
- On 2Y and 5Y charts they use weekly bars, and the column headers change to B/S W and T W.
Reading B / S / H together with T
- B with a small T — a new uptrend that has only just started.
- B with a large T — a mature uptrend; check the AI Analyzer to see how long such runs usually last.
- H with a green dot — often the "buy the dip" set-up in a rising trend.
- H with a red dot — often a "sell the rally" set-up in a falling trend.
Scan a watchlist on daily bars for timing, then switch the chart to 2Y to see the weekly picture for the same symbols.
3. The AI Analyzer tab (Pro)
The AI tab turns all of OT Trend's readings for one symbol into a one-page report written in plain words. It follows the symbol on the chart, or you can type any symbol and tap Analyze. Everything is calculated on your device from the same data the chart uses.
What's on the page
The summary card at the top gives the picture at a glance:
| Part | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Daily / Weekly chips | The trend on each time frame: green uptrend, red downtrend, yellow pullback, orange bounce. |
| Signal chip | The last daily oscillator signal (buy or sell) and how long ago it came. |
| Rotation chip | The market risk read and its drop odds: green for RISK-ON, red for RISK-OFF. |
| Daily levels | Support, resistance and the options levels on one bar, with a dot for the price. |
| Typical range | 1-week and 1-month price ranges (1σ and 2σ) from moves in past periods like today’s. |
| Run bars | The daily and weekly runs against their average and 3σ; a first-week run is flagged for reversal risk. |
Tap Show details under the card for the full reading:
- Market breadth gauges — NYSE and NASDAQ breadth on a 0–100 scale (red = weak, yellow = neutral, green = strong). Turn them off with the Market breadth switch.
- Market Snapshot — a short summary: the daily and weekly trends and whether they agree, the oscillators and the last signal, the nearest support and resistance, the options picture, when the next cycle low is due, and the sector rotation read.
- Key Readings, in sections:
| Section | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Trend | Daily and weekly state: uptrend, downtrend, pullback or bounce (the same B / S / H as the watchlist), how many bars the price has been on this side of the trendline, and its distance from the line in %. |
| Run statistics | How long past runs above and below the trendline lasted on average, and the 3σ spread. A run past the average is mature; one beyond 3σ is unusually long. |
| Oscillators | Osc, RSI and Combined (0–100), daily and weekly: overbought at 70+, oversold at 30 and below, plus the last swing signal and when it came. |
| Levels to Watch | Channel top down to channel bottom, highest first, each with its distance from the price in %. |
| Options | Largest call and put open interest, max pain, put/call ratio, gamma wall, put wall, gamma flip, the expected move to the next monthly expiry and implied volatility. |
| Cycle Timing | Each cycle’s length, bars since its last low and about how many bars to the next one. Shown when the chart’s AI cycle button is on. |
| Sector Rotation (weekly) | The market risk read from the Rotation tab with its past odds of a 10%+ SPY drop within 13 weeks, the Leading and Improving sectors, and for a stock or sector ETF where its sector stands (quadrant, weeks there, heading). Risk, not direction. |
| Bottom line | Do daily and weekly agree, is the run young or mature, is the market stretched, and what the rotation read says. |
Colors help you scan: green for up, rising and buy; red for down, falling and sell; yellow for pullback, bounce, mixed, overbought or oversold.

Siri
Ask Siri "Analyze SPY in OT Trend" (or any symbol) and Siri reads a short summary aloud: the daily and weekly trend, how long the run has lasted against its average, and the Combined oscillator. You can also add the action in the Shortcuts app.
4. The Rotation tab (Pro)
The Rotation tab shows where money is moving among the 11 S&P 500 sectors (the SPDR sector ETFs XLK, XLF, XLE, XLV, XLY, XLP, XLI, XLB, XLU, XLRE and XLC), each measured against SPY, and what that has meant for the market as a whole.
The map
Each sector is a dot with a trail of its last 8 bars, so you can see which way it is moving.
- Across: strength against SPY (RS-Ratio). Right of the center line, the sector is doing better than SPY; left, worse.
- Up: momentum of that strength (RS-Momentum). Above the center line, the sector is gaining on SPY; below, losing ground.
Both are centered on 100. The four corners:
| Quadrant | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Leading (top right, green) | Stronger than SPY and still gaining |
| Weakening (bottom right, yellow) | Still stronger, but losing pace |
| Lagging (bottom left, red) | Weaker than SPY and still slipping |
| Improving (top left, blue) | Still weaker, but catching up |
Sectors usually rotate clockwise: Improving → Leading → Weakening → Lagging → Improving.
Use the Weekly / Daily switch at the top. Weekly is the classic view; the current week is included as it goes and settles at Friday's close. Pull down to refresh.
The market risk read
The colored banner compares the offensive sectors (technology, consumer discretionary, communications, financials, industrials, materials) with the defensive ones (consumer staples, utilities, health care, real estate). Energy is left out of both groups. It also lists the sectors that are Leading and Improving.
| Read | Offense against defense | 10%+ SPY drop within 13 weeks, past weeks like this |
|---|---|---|
| RISK-ON | Leading | 1 in 12 |
| RISK-ON, FADING | Weakening | 1 in 14 |
| RISK-OFF | Lagging | 1 in 6 |
| RISK-OFF, BOUNCING | Improving | 1 in 4 |
| All weeks | 1 in 8 |
The odds come from weekly data since 1999, so they show on the Weekly view only. The read is about risk, not direction: average returns after each read were similar, but the odds of a sharp drop were not. "Bouncing" — offense starting to recover while still behind defense — has historically been the riskiest, often a rally inside a falling market rather than a bottom.
The list
Each sector has a row: its color chip and ticker, its name, its quadrant, how long it has been there (weeks or days) and its heading.
The heading is a compass direction for which way the sector's dot moved on the map over the last bar. Up on the map is north (momentum rising), right is east (strength against SPY rising).
| Heading | Move on the map | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| NE ↗ | up and right | Gaining on both strength and momentum — the healthiest |
| SE ↘ | down and right | Still getting stronger, but more slowly — losing pace |
| SW ↙ | down and left | Weakening on both |
| NW ↖ | up and left | Still weakening, but less — turning up |
Along the usual clockwise rotation, a Leading sector heading SE is drifting toward Weakening, a Weakening one heading SW toward Lagging, a Lagging one heading NW toward Improving, and an Improving one heading NE toward Leading. Weekly and Daily headings can differ: the weekly one is the trend of the rotation, the daily one the short-term pulse.
- Filter to one quadrant (Leading, Weak., Lagging, Improv.) — the map shows only those sectors too.
- Sort by quadrant (in rotation order, strongest first), by symbol, or by how long each sector has been in its quadrant.
- Tap a row or a dot to open that sector on the Chart tab.
Rotation alerts
Tap the bell at the top of the Rotation tab to be told when the market risk read changes, for example from RISK-ON to RISK-OFF. The bell turns gold when alerts are on.
- When: after each Friday close. OT Trend checks the settled weekly read (the week up to Friday's close, not the week still in progress) and sends a notification only if it differs from the week before. iOS picks the exact moment, usually Friday evening; if it skips the background check, the app runs it the next time you open it.
- What it says: the new read, what it was the week before, the past odds of a 10%+ SPY drop within 13 weeks for the new read, and the sectors now Leading. Tap the notification to open the Rotation tab.
- Turning them on: the first time, OT Trend asks for permission to send notifications. If you said no, turn notifications on in Settings › Notifications › OT Trend, then tap the bell again. The first check after switching on only records the current read, so you aren't alerted about a change that already happened.
- Tap the bell again to turn alerts off. Alerts are part of OT Trend Pro.
RS-Ratio and RS-Momentum here are a public approximation of the measures used in relative rotation graphs; the values will be close to, but not the same as, other services.
5. Putting it together — a simple routine
- Weekly first. Open the symbol on 2Y. Is the trendline rising or falling? That is the main trend.
- Daily for timing. Switch to 6M. In an uptrend, wait for a pullback: H with a green dot in the watchlist, the Combined line near 30, or a green swing ▲.
- Check the levels. Where are support, resistance and the options levels? Is there room to the next level?
- Check the AI tab. Do daily and weekly agree? Is the current run young or already long against its average? Is a cycle low near?
- Check the Rotation tab. Is the market risk read RISK-ON or RISK-OFF? Is your stock's sector Leading or Improving, or Lagging? Turn on the bell to hear when the read changes.
- Stay aware. Signals near the right edge of the chart can still shift, and no indicator is right every time.
